Oh Thee Saturday Wash Day Written By: Mr. Kyle Schu Please Hear Thy Song Video Link https://youtu.be/Ok1Uw8LHHuM Friends every Saturday reminds me of that Oh Thee Saturday Wash Day or just known as the Saturday Laundry Day as from week's past on how your clothes would have been so very black from working in them coal mines to working in them steel factories to even if you where a kid playing in your clothes then you would still have some kind dirt on them when you can bet of having such smell from not washing your clothes daily but you see back them days wash was done every Saturday where washboards and scrubbing boards to tubs where used to wash clothes where people lived because dating back from the 1800's to the 1920's them washing boards will take the dirt out of your clothes the old fashioned way--with elbow grease! Use washing boards for laundry, because back in them times there was no electric washer and dryer when then Most household manuals recommended soaking the clothes overnight first. but The next day, clothes would be soaped, boiled or scalded, rinsed, wrung out, mangled, dried, starched, and ironed, often with steps repeating throughout. Some manuals recommended scalding and rinsing up to three times! to Washing had to be sorted into white items and coloured ones. Many had been left soaking in cold water overnight to help loosen the dirt. The items had to be separated in this way as many of the dyes used to colour fabrics were not always 'fast' and could stain other materials when wet. meaning everything was done by hand to even hanging your clean clothes up when you washed them on a clotheslines-usually without clothespins, bushes, hedgerows, wooden frames or laid over the lawn to dry. Some estates and towns had drying greens, fields of grass for laundry to be dried upon. The chlorophyll in the grass and the sunshine also helped bleach fabrics. to even Hanging clothes from frames of inside doorways or from lines strung in empty rooms (in larger homes) will also dry those effectively in winter now and was likely used in times past.
